Sauteed Pasta Toss Recipe

  • 8 ounces dried fusilli or spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 ounces Italian bread, torn into small pieces
  • 8 ounces Johnsonville® Italian Sweet or Hot Sausage Links
  • 2 medium green tomatoes, cut into wedges
  • 1 medium red onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 medium red, green or yellow sweet pepper, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar Classico® Tomato and Basil pasta sauce
  1. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large skillet heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add bread pieces. Cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes or until bread is toasted. Remove from skillet; set aside.
  3. Remove casings, if present, from Johnsonville(R) Italian Sweet or Hot Sausage Links. In the same skillet cook and stir the sausage or ground beef, tomatoes, onion, and pepper over medium heat 6 to 8 minutes or until vegetables are tender and sausage is browned. Drain off fat. Stir in Classico(R) Tomato and Basil pasta sauce. Cook and stir until heated through. Serve Classico(R) Tomato and Basil pasta sauce over hot cooked pasta; sprinkle with toasted bread pieces.
