Ham and Asparagus with Gruyere Sauce Recipe

  • 1 (12 ounce) package Archer Farms™ frozen steam-in-the-bag asparagus spears
  • 1 (12 ounce) package extra lean ham steaks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Dash Archer Farms™ ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup half and half (or fat free half and half)
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons dry white wine
  1. Cook asparagus as directed on package. Heat ham as directed on package.
  2. Meanwhile, melt butter in 1 1/2-quart saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat until bubbly. Slow stir in half and half. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in cheese and wine until cheese is melted. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  3. To serve, place baked ham steaks on serving platter. Top each steak with about 7 asparagus spears. Spoon on sauce and sprinkle chopped chives or parsley if you have some
