Deep Dish Cherry Pie Recipe

  • 1 pastry for a double crust 9-inch pie
  • 1 (20 ounce) can pitted sour red pie cherries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup butter
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Combine sugar and cornstarch. In a medium bowl, combine cherries and water. Toss with sugar mixture. Pour filling into pastry-lined deep dish pie pan. Dot with butter or margarine. Cover with top pastry. Seal edges and cut steam vents in top.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
