Cheese Fritters with Chutney Chili Sauce Recipe

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 1/2 cups fine dry bread crumbs
  • oil
  • 1 (15 ounce) can HORMEL® Chili No Beans
  • 1 (4.25 ounce) can CHI-CHI'S® Diced Green Chilies, drained
  • 1/3 cup PATAK'S® Sweet Mango Chutney
  1. In saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Add flour and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add half-and-half; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat; stir in pepper and cheese until melted. Cool completely, until firm.
  2. Combine egg and water, beating well. Set aside. Pour oil to a depth of 2 to 3 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 375 degrees F. Roll 1 tablespoon cheese mixture in bread crumbs; dip in egg mixture and roll again in bread crumbs.
  3. Fry fritters in hot oil, until golden brown; drain. In saucepan, combine chili, green chilies, and chutney. Cook over low heat until thoroughly heated. To serve, spoon chili onto serving plates; arrange fritters over chili.
