Apple-Pear Crisp Recipe
- 3 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch (1-cm) slices
- 3 pears, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch (1-cm) slices
- 2/3 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons margarine, softened
- Toss apples and pears with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) flour, 1/4 cup (50 ml) sugar, lemon peel and juice, and nutmeg. Spoon into 9-inch (23-cm) pie plate.
- Combine remaining flour, remaining 1/4 cup (50 ml) sugar, oats, and cinnamon. Add margarine. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut margarine into flour mixture until crumbly. Sprinkle crumbs over fruit
- Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) until filling bubbles and topping is browned, about 35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or cold.
